Workshop Description

ArtSpeak /From Page to Performance continues to evolve with many of the same writer participants and new ones. The workshops will be focusing on healing, solidarity and friendship. As poetry evolves so do poetry forms. New and familiar forms of poetry will also continue to be an important part of the workshop. More than ever we need poetry in our lives. One writer has called the workshops “her sacred Saturday space”. Participants are improving their performing in public/and performing venues ex. open mics/invited mics/family and profession/events.

Participants are ethnically diverse writers. Ekphrastic prompts will be culled from a variety of sources like art exhibitions, existing poems and various poetic formats. Our 5 senses will become a part of the writings. Gentle editing of poems will take place each session. These workshops will include honing the reading aloud and performance skills of participants. Many of the ArtSpeak/FPTP participants are being published in local and environmental outlets. Each session will begin at 1:00 pm and end at 3:30 pm. Sessions will be two and a half hour workshops facilitated by Yonkers Poet Laureate Golda Solomon. Many of the writers are scholarship students who are senior citizens and/ or on a fixed income. The sessions will be on September 20, October 18, November 15 and December 20 2025. We received a donation to enable an additional facilitator with Page to Performance expertise to add additional workshop time from 3:30 pm to 5 pm. on November 15 (Privately Funded).
